The Battle of Inkerman stands as a defining moment in Foot Guards history. Fighting in isolation and without support, they held their position against overwhelming Russian forces. The Grenadier Guards were uniquely distinguished as the only regiment to carry their colours into the battle, turning them into both a rallying point and a symbol to be defended at all costs.
